Screenings: Ali Cherri at BAFF (FR)
The Brussels Art Film Festival presents, in collaboration with WIELS, the screening of three short films by Ali Cherri: Somniculus (2017), The Disquiet (2013), and Petrified (2016) — screened at CINEMATEK, in dialogue with the exhibition Soul Witness.
Through these three films, Ali Cherri takes us to places where the past continually resurfaces: a museum, a landscape, an archaeological site. Nothing there is merely scenery or a relic. Each object seems to carry the memory of a disappearance, a displacement, or a conflict. At the boundary between documentary and fiction, his films explore the ways in which history continues to shape our perception of the world and of the works we choose to preserve, exhibit, or forget.
The screenings will be introduced by Helena Kritis, curator of Soul Witness.
