Lázara Rosell Albear (b. 1971, Cuba) is a Brussels-based artist with a mixed practice, ranging from the research of sound and performance to the production of events and films. Exchange and sharing constitute the essence of her practice.
She explores movement, migration, transformation, interactivity and its effects on the human condition. The advance in technologies has brought us “new” means to work with, broadening also the traditional means of dance, and theatre. Rather than choosing between these different media, she strives for a contrapuntal togetherness and total immersion, both internal and external. Rosell Albear's project for Something Stronger Than Me* become a sensorial commentary on the intersections in the formation of subjectivities, the personal and universal, interior and exterior.
Lázara Rosell Albear was a resident at WIELS in 2016. Her collaborations and her various artistic, musical and performative projects have been shown all around the world. She founded the media organization MahaWorks in 2001 together with the musician and composer Eli Van de Vondel to develop projects and collaborations with like-minded artists. For Something Stronger Than Me*, beside her “fixed” works presented on the 2nd floor of WIELS, she has invited artists and musicians to create with her different events throughout the project:
- a concert by Invisible Cities, 29.10.2017, 16:00
- a concert by The Hi Shi Wah Killers, 12.11.2017, 16:00
- a performance with The Art Ensemble of Brussels on the final day of the exhibition, 07.01.2018 07.01.2018, 18:00
