Something Stronger Than Me*
WIELS presents Something Stronger Than Me* with the participation of more than 20 artists including Extension, Fake Calligraphy, Melissa Gordon, Tonio Kröner, Ghislaine Leung, lonelyfingers, Lucia Nimcova, NUANS, Christophe de Rohan Chabot, Lázara Rosell Albear, Jannis Schroeder, SPARTA, Axelle Stiefel, Monika Stricker and Suse Weber.
Inhabiting the second floor of WIELS simultaneously with a newly commissioned installation titled Guide Rails (2017) by Rita McBride as part of the exhibition Explorer, the artists in Something Stronger Than Me* present diverse contributions ranging from videos to workshops, sculptures to radio platforms, performances to migrating materials. Please join us as the activity unfolds.
Something Stronger Than Me* is an exercise that echoes the primary practice of the WIELS artist residency programme since its inception 9 years ago. Artists in dialogue with artists continues to be foundational to the residency programme and is central to the co-habitation that Something Stronger Than Me* explores as it expands the notion of residency into the public domain.
The contributions by the artists and their invited guests have been initiated by artists Rita McBride and Willem Oorebeek and WIELS curator Devrim Bayar.
