Jimmy Owenns
Jimmy Owenns lives and works between Paris and New York.
Artist without sexual identity born in 1981, Jimmy Owenns works since 1998 on the notions about splitting (of the perception, narration and psyche) and the search for identity through art installations, videos, photographs, drawings and interactive works.
In 2001/2002, she realized an interactive photographic diary initially
conceived for an internet broadcasting on the website www.photographic-diary.com, afterwards it has been published as a DVD in 2006. This interactive work has been awarded by the new media award of the 11th Biennial of Visual Art of Pancevo (Serbia and Montenegro) in 2004 and by the jury's special award of VideoFormes (Clermont-Ferrand, France) in 2005.
Since 2004 her visual work moves towards the cinematic universe and the questioning of its narration and construction. Her videos "Le Couple" and "Les Amoureuses" have been awarded by the Animal Symposium's award (Gold Coast, Australia) in 2006 and by the jury's special award of VideoFormes (Clermont-Ferrand) in 2007.
Her projects broaching the japanese culture (bondage's technique, the Kistune character coming from the folklore and the ontemporary erotic media imagery) have been enriched by a trip to Tokyo originated within the context of an art residency in Brooklyn (USA) at the end of 2007.
These last years, her research have been improved by thoughts on the erotic body and object as well as the intimate fiction.
