Inspired by the Soul Witness exhibition, WIELS is offering a week-long stop-motion workshop for children during the autumn holidays.
Drawing on the film The Watchman by artist Ali Cherri, the children set out to discover a soldier who stands guard, alone, in a tower. What does he see? What might he imagine during this long wait? The children will invent their own story, featuring characters, settings and imaginary creatures, before creating a stop-motion film to bring their script and creations to life.

The short film The Watchman tells the story of a guard who spends long hours alone in a watchtower. Little by little, he begins to dream and see strange things...
What is he thinking about? What might he see around him? Animals? People? Monsters? Fantastical creatures? Or perhaps something that exists only in dreams?
Children are invited to make up their own story and let their imaginations run wild. They then create their characters and settings, before learning how to bring them to life, frame by frame, using stop-motion!
