The solo exhibition of Nico Vascellari marks the opening in Brussels of the activities of ‘Officina’ , a new cultural association the main objective of which is to promote contemporary art by means of exhibitions, publications and research projects.
On this occasion, WIELS is organizing an encounter with the artist (born in Vittorio Veneto in 1976 and working both in Italy and New York), aiming at presenting his creative itinerary , which started at the beginning of the new Millenium,and is inspired by a large palette of iconographic and iconic elements drawing on history, science, art, anthropology and popular traditions. Centred on the role of the invidual, in particular that of the artist, set in relation to the space he occupies in today’s society, Vascellari’s research articulates itself in a variety of means of expression which include installation, painting, three-dimensional work, graphics, performance ( in particular his collaboration with Marina Abramovic), sounds and music (he plays in two musical groups that he has himself set up : With Love and Los Niños do Brasil).
The exhibition at Officina (14-28 February 2014, curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto) is accompanied by the publication of a catalog printed by Cassochrome and presented during the encounter with Vascellari
