Series of three lectures around Particle Projection (Loop), the film realized by Simon Starling for Wiels.
In 1969, Barnett Newmann remarked that "size is nothing; what matters is the scale." At a moment that Tate Modern is about to announce the eigth artist to occupy the vast Turbine Hall within the Unilever Series, and the City of Paris will launch the even more gigantic exhibition series Monumenta in the central nave of the Grand Palais this summer, size is brought back up for critical discussion. Departing from Simon Starling's work Particle Projection (Loop), this lecture will deal with the notions of size and scale in contemporary art and art commissioning.
