Throughout its almost fifty years of publication, the periodical Kempens Informatieblad acted as an information system directed by the artist, through which he organized the representation and mediation of his work and related activities. Geys was a raconteur, expanding and rewriting the information we thought we had gained about him with every issue. The event seeks to recount and annotate his stories and work via the newspaper. To this end, many of the over fifty issues will be made accessible for browsing and discussion and placed in relation to some of the works on display.
Gloria Hasnay is a curator and has served in this role at Kunstverein München, Munich, since 2019, where she currently also acts as interim director. Together with Moritz Nebenführ she has organized two exhibitions of Jef Geys’s work which focused on the Kempens Informatieblad and took place at Linden, Düsseldorf (2017), and Künstlerhaus Bremen (2019). She is a regular guest lecturer, including at the Zurich University of the Arts, the Städelschule in Frankfurt, the University of Cologne, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich—the last two of which also involved lectures and workshops on Geys’s work.
