Conversation between Thao Nguyen Phan and Zoë Gray (EN)
On the first day of the exhibition Monsoon Melody, join us for a discussion between the artist Thao Nguyen Phan and curator Zoë Gray, to gain a glimpse behind the scenes of the exhibition and explore the underlying themes of Phan’s practice.
Thao Nguyen Phan is a multimedia artist based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. After graduating from Singapore’s Lasalle College of the Arts in 2009, Phan received an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Today, in addition to her art practice, she has joined forces with artist Truong Cong Tung and curator Arlette Quynh-Anh Tran to form Art Labor, a collective that explores cross-disciplinary practices and develops art projects for the local community. Phan has exhibited widely in Southeast Asia and was a 2016-2017 Rolex Protégée, mentored by internationally acclaimed New York-based performance and video artist Joan Jonas. In 2019 she was shortlisted for the Hugo Boss Asia Art Award.
