Lecture by the curator of the exhibition, Liesbeth Decan, on Tapta's practice as an artist and teacher. Using archival material from Tapta's personal archive and some public archives (KMSKB, M HKA, MuZee, La Cambre), an overview of her work is outlined and her work is placed within an international artistic context.

Liesbeth Decan teaches history of photography and art at LUCA School of Arts Brussels. She holds a PhD in Art History (KU Leuven). Her research had long been focused on the use of photography by artists, especially in Belgium, between the 1960s and early 1990s. Her most comprehensive publication on that topic is the book Conceptual, Surrealist, Pictorial: Photo-based Art in Belgium (1960s-early 1990s) (Leuven University Press, 2016). On the same subject she curated the exhibition From Broodthaers to Braeckman. Photography in the Visual Arts in Belgium at M HKA, Antwerp (2017). She co-edited the books Philippe Van Snick: Dynamic Project (with Hilde Van Gelder; ASA Publishers, 2010) and Photography Performing Humor (with Mieke Bleyen; Leuven University Press, 2019). In 2020, together with Greet Billet and Hana Miletić, she initiated a research project on Tapta, resulting in an exhibition at Arton Foundation (Warsaw, 2021) and now in WIELS, Brussels.
