Cherish Menzo, 'Jezebel'

A performance that subverts hip hop’s stereotypes and fantasies, bursting the expectations of our pre-programmed views. Menzo’s presence is magnetic in this highly physical tour de force.
Cherish Menzo’s performance Jezebel refers to the biblical character synonymous with seduction and lust. Menzo pairs her with another disparaged female model: the video vixen, a scantily dressed black woman who danced sensuously in ‘90s hip-hop clips. Jezebel is the story of their emancipation, rejecting their status as mere accessory. Onstage, Menzo playfully appropriates hip-hop’s hackneyed stereotypes and fantasies.
The contemporary Jezebel refuses to be defined by others and instead joyfully explodes the expectations of our pre- programmed views.
