Book presentation: Wax & Gold by Ermias Kifleyesus (EN)
Ermias Kifleyesus presents his book, Wax & Gold Cabinet, a playful yet profound chronicle of his artistic journey, encapsulating the complexities of our world, universe, and society. Ermias’s work is an invitation to reimagine the role of creativity in fostering democracy and envisioning a better world. His commitment to inspiring new generations underscores his belief in art as a powerful tool for societal transformation. The narratives within are intentionally written in broken English and imperfect grammar to preserve the raw voices of those he encountered, reflecting their authenticity. This book is chapter one and a glimpse of a much larger work in progress. Bringing Wax & Gold Cabinet to life was a collective effort. The book was enriched by editor, writer, critic, and curator Hans Theys, translator and classmate Agenehu Adane, and collaborator Daphne Astor. Characters like Ifyousayso and Zeal added dimension to the narratives, while honorary authors Els Silvrants-Barclay and Bekele Mekonnen contributed further depth. Photographs by Michael de Lausnay, along with contributions from Els Opsomer, Mitslal Kifleyesus, Annabelle Van Nieuwenhuyse, Felix Matschie, and Johan Penson, brought additional vibrancy to the project.
