Alied Ottevanger: On the drawings of René Daniëls (NL)
Art historian Alied Ottevanger tells you more about the early drawings of René Daniels. She reflects on some of his sources and on the disruptive consequences of his early drawings for his art.
Alied Ottevanger became curator of 20th century prints and drawings at the Rijksmuseum’s Print Room in August 2015. This appointment is the culmination of thirty years of experience as curator of modern art at the RBK, forerunner to the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (1985-1993), and the Netherlands Institute for Art History in The Hague (1993-2005). Alongside her curatorships, she honed her editing skills at Metropolis M magazine of contemporary art (1982-1990) and Jong Holland (1995-2002) magazine for art and design. She teaches art history at a number of institutes, including the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, and as a guest lecturer at Leiden University and Amsterdam University.
