Le jardin sans soleil [The sunless garden] brings together a selection from Marie Zolamian's extensive oeuvre, focusing on her many drawings, rarely shown to the public, alongside a carefully curated series of recent oil paintings. The book also contains an interview between Sofia Dati and Marie Zolamian, as well as essays by Vanessa Desclaux and Antony Hudek.
Le jardin sans soleil accompanies the exhibition Confabulations, presented at WIELS from 21 February to 17 May 2026.
Marie Zolamian (born 1975, Beirut) is a Belgian-Lebanese multidisciplinary artist of Armenian descent who grew up in Lebanon until the age of fifteen. Zolamian’s work lies at the intersection between colorful, familiar scenes, art historical references, and a déjà vu-like dream world in which magical silhouettes and creatures appear. She draws inspiration from icons and ex-votos, and from the images that illustrated the first medieval books: illuminated manuscripts and the art of miniature painting — Persian, Armenian, Indian and Western.
Available from 20 February 2026.
Book Launch: Sunday 12 April, 15:00.
