Look Who's Talking: Noor Mertens (NL)

In 2015, Noor Mertens developed a compact exhibition around the early works of Willem Oorebeek in the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, in Rotterdam, the former home of the artist. She staged these works with works by Richard Artschwager, Marcel Duchamp, Gerhard Richter and others. The film ‘Film’ by Samuel Beckett, the only film Beckett made, with an old Buster Keaton in the lead role, could not be shown during the exhibition due to restrictive film rights. Selections from this film form the prelude to the tour that Noor Mertens will make in Willem Oorebeek's exhibition OBSTAKLES.
Biografie
Noor Mertens heeft een achtergrond in musicologie en kunstgeschiedenis. Sinds 2021 leidt ze Kunstmuseum Bochum, een museum in het postindustriële Ruhrgebied in Duitsland dat zich richt op kunst uit de 20e en 21e eeuw, met een belangrijke collectie werken van kunstenaars uit Centraal- en Oost-Europa. Samen met het team onderzoekt ze hoe een kunstmuseum een echte openbare ruimte voor en in de stad kan worden. Daarvoor was ze directeur van Kunstverein Langenhagen, waar ze tentoonstellingen organiseerde zoals 'She is the Future - An Exhibition Ignited by Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven', 'Christopher Knowles - These Are The Days', 'Aroundabout Jack Jaeger' en 'Patricia Esquivias, Cardón Cardinal'. Als junior curator en curator moderne en hedendaagse kunst bij Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam ontwikkelde ze tentoonstellingen met kunstenaars als Beni Bischof, Elias Lassry, Alexandra Bircken, Aleksandra Domanovic, Isabel Nolan, Dina Danish, Marijn van Kreij en Helen Mirra.
