Goeun Bae
Goeun Bae (°1984, KOR) is an artist currently based in Amsterdam.
Bae's art practice considers ideas in the manner of dismantling and reconstructing the ruling order observed in a minutely tuned history of society. Humor and tragedy intertwine as she exposes historical and political issues, starting from the firing points of seemingly trivial personal experiences. Within her works, she positions herself as both a witness and concurrently caught up in the battle between the internal patriarchy and the external or social patriarchy. Her works are realized in such as film, performance, object installation, sound, and photography.
Goeun Bae completed her BFA and MFA at the Korean National University of Art. She was a participant at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (2012/2013) and EKWC European Ceramic Work Center (2020). Her work has been exhibited and performed in various venues, including Amsterdam Art Weekend & The 27th IDFA, Eye Filmmuseum; Galeria Vermelho São Paulo; Prospects & Concepts, Art Rotterdam; Arko Art Center, Seoul; ABA Salon Uferstudios, Berlin; CCA kitakyushu; Goethe Institute Beijing; Amsterdam Museum; The 9th OCAT Biennale Shenzhen(removed by censorship) and De Appel, Amsterdam.
