Symposium : In and Out of Brussels: Aesthetics / Histories / Politics Between Europe and Africa (2010-2012)
On May 21, 2011, a by-invitation seminar on Sven Augustijnen's Spectres (2011) will be organized at Wiels, within the framework of the research project In and Out of Brussels: Aesthetics / Histories / Politics Between Europe and Africa (2010-2012), directed by T.J. Demos (University College London) and Hilde Van Gelder (K.U.Leuven).

The project intends to parse the political, historical and aesthetic implications of four recent films by Herman Asselberghs, Sven Augustijnen, Renzo Martens, and Els Opsomer. Its multiple outcomes include:
- four symposia gathering international and interdisciplinary participants: a symposium on Renzo Martens took place in 2010, the ones on Herman Asselberghs and Els Opsomer are provisionally planned for September 2011 at Wiels;
- a book project (Leuven University Press, Lieven Gevaert Series, 2012);
- an exhibition at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge (Barcelona) in 2012.
