Book launch: Henri Jacobs in conversation with Kasper Andreasen (NL)
In September 2013, Journal Drawings by Henri Jacobs was published by Roma Publications Amsterdam: a precipitation of 9 years of drawing and photography.
In November 2024, the sequel New Surface Research is published. This book is a record of 10 years of paper weaving. The idea behind New Surface Research is the study of the two-dimensionality of a surface: the tactile braided appearance as well as the recto-verso property of the paper surface, reproduced in book form.
Jacobs will be in conversation with artist Kasper Andreasen about the correspondence they had in the process leading up to the project; a text included in the book.
During his 40-year artistic career, Henri Jacobs has produced a diverse body of work, ranging from drawings to paintings, woven tapestries, and ceramics. Jacobs' practice also encompasses a wide range of material applications, including murals and commissions in brick and cobblestone mosaics.
Henri Jacobs (NL, 1957) has lived and worked in Brussels since 1993. His practice spans four decades and he has exhibited his work internationally in galleries and museums. Since 2003, he has been working on a continuous stream of drawings under the name Journal Drawings which he publishes on his blog and in book form.
Kasper Andreasen (DK, 1979) has lived and worked in Berlin and Ghent since 2016. Andreasen is an avid producer of drawings and printed matter, and has curated various exhibitions about related media and artists' books. His approach can be considered 'archi-textual' - the primary way of mapping writing and drawing activities in their respective pictorial forms. He teaches at KASK in Ghent.
