In early 2026, the leading Centre for Contemporary Art WIELS will present an extensive survey exhibition dedicated to the artist Lutz Bacher (1943-2019) titled Burning the Days, co-commissioned with Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo, and curated by Helena Kritis, Dirk Snauwaert and Solveig Øvstebø. With a career that spans more than 40 years Bacher’s oeuvre occupies a distinctive and elusive position within contemporary art, characterized by its exploration of identity, gender norms and their inherent power dynamics, and the human condition. Her work delves deeply into themes of sexuality, politics, violence, and societal norms, frequently challenging the observer to confront uncomfortable truths.
