‘Rehabilitation,’ a term which refers to the renovation and the historical preservation of architecture in order to give it new life serves as a thematic red thread for this group exhibition that looks at how a generation young artists both confront and appropriate the legacy of utopian concepts of modernist architecture and design.

In her work, New York-based artist Wangechi Mutu, who was born in Kenya, addresses issues related to black female identity, Western consumer culture, African politics, and postcolonial history. She became known for her collages that vacillate between beauty and horror. By using various materials such as glitter, tape, or animal fur in combination with magazine clippings, she creates idiosyncratic pieces that present the female body in a distorted, seductive, or commanding way and in a state of constant transformation.

Every Sunday morning between 11am and 1pm, an artist welcomes children from 5 to 10 yo for a creative workshop inspired by the exhibitions on view in our art centre. The opportunity for parents to visit the exhibitions in peace or to enjoy a tasty brunch in the unique setting of our brew hall.

On reservation : 02 340 00 52 – nadia@wiels.org
Price: 6€/child

"The time of mistakes", the title of the new installation by Wafae Ahalouch el Keriasti and Hamza Halloubi in the Speedy Wash laundrette, refers to a novel by Mohamed Shukri. In his autobiography, the Moroccan author recounts his  learning difficulties and his life as a street child, surrounded by marginal people. The title is like an invitation to a journey: a journey from text to image, from Choukri's book to the St-Denis Square, from personal trajectory to collective experience.

4-8pm

For the closing of the exhibition Rehabilitation, join us on Sunday afternoon for a DJ set and outdoor bar. Music by Rick Shiver
